With close to 7 million visitors every year, Tunisia is one of Africa’s most popular tourist destinations. Citizens from 97 countries can currently travel to Tunisia visa-free for certain periods of time. Entry to Tunisia is also visa-free for Canadian citizens.
Canadian nationals who intend to study or work in Tunisia, or to visit for more than 4 months at a time, need to apply for a Tunisia visa. The visa can be obtained from the Tunisian Embassy in Ottawa or consulates in Vancouver and Montreal.
Later this year, Tunisia’s online visa will become available, saving the hassle of having to visit the embassy or consulates.
Note that the finalized list of countries eligible for visa-free travel has not been released by the Tunisian Government. The same applies to other visa-related information, such as its length of validity. All information will be made available once the eVisa is launched. The information about the Tunisia eVisa will be continually updated with the details regarding the Tunisia visa requirements for Canadian citizens. It is important that all Canadian passport holders planning a trip to Tunisia in the coming months check back frequently.
There are several visa requirements for Canadian citizens traveling to Tunisia. The application for a visa to Tunisia for Canadian citizens includes the following steps:
- Complete and submit the application form
- Pay the eVisa fee

It is estimated that most Tunisia visas will be approved quickly and the applicant will have their approved travel authorization within a few days.
Tunisia Visa Application for Canadians
Once the eVisa has been introduced, the Tunisia visa application will be done entirely online. It will be an easy process that can be completed in less than 30 minutes.
In order to obtain an eVisa for travel to Tunisia, Canadian nationals will need to apply online by filling in the application form with the essential information such as their personal and passport details. They will also be asked to answer several security questions.
After having paid for the visa and submitted the form, the applicant will receive a confirmation by email. The eVisa approval will be sent to the same email address. It is therefore mandatory to have a working email address.
The applicant’s passport must be valid at least until the end of the stay in Tunisia. If this is not the case, the passport needs to be renewed before starting the visa application process.
What Documents Do I Need to Apply for a Tunisia Visa?
Travelers who wish to apply for an online visa for Tunisia from Canada will need to make sure that they have the following:
- A valid passport
- A valid payment card (either credit or debit) for paying the visa fee. The latest secure online payment measures are in place to ensure that the credit or debit card payment is processed safely

Further requirements may be added to the list, for example, it may be necessary to upload a copy of the main page of the applicant’s passport and a photo.
